Cash-in-Transit (CIT) Tour of Duty to the United States of America (USA),


Miami and Chicago, from 23 September 2025 to 06 October 2025. The delegation consisted of representatives of CITASA, SBV, Serious Organised Crime Investigations, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations, participated in a study tour designed to gain practical, first-hand insights into best practice, CIT crime prevention strategies and technologies applied in the USA.

The delegation travelled to Chicago to attend the SCTA conference from 01 to 03 October 2025. The conference focused on critical themes, including the state of the CIT industry in America, consumer access to cash, cash visibility updates, payment options, the ATM sector’s landscape, body camera technology for risk mitigation, AI-related risks, and other pressing concerns. The delegation also presented the South African perspective, highlighting strategies and successes in addressing CIT robberies and securing cash payment systems.

During the tour of duty in Miami from 24 to 30 September 2025, the delegation engaged in a comprehensive program to explore advanced technologies and strategies for mitigating various threat types. The tour included visits to key facilities such as the Miami Police Department, the Miami Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center, the Miami Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, and the Miami Police Training Academy. The delegation participated in focused sessions.

The Head of CITASA addressed the 2025 SCTA (Secure Cash Transport Association) Conference on the topic: “Unlocking Success in South Africa’s CIT Sector. The conference took place between 1-3 October 2025 in Chicago, USA.
